Fast moving forklifts, miscommunication, a loud working environment, obstructions in the forklift driver's view, and a 4 foot drop off are just some factors that make the loading dock one of the most dangerous areas of your facility.

If a trailer unexpectedly separates from the dock that 4 foot drop off could have catastrophic results -- including lawsuits, serious injuries...or even death.

The two main causes of trailer separation are: trailer creep or dock walk, which occurs when the repeated impact of forklifts causes the trailer to move away from the dock. And early or unscheduled departure, which occurs when a trailer mistakenly drives away.

Before vehicle restraints, wheel chocks had been the standard way to keep trailers in place.
But wheel chocks simply don't work. Trucks can easily drive over them, especially in wet or slippery conditions, and they often get lost or stolen. Chocks also provide no communication between dock personnel and the truck driver.

Wheel based vehicle restraints, which are mounted to the dock approach and provide superior communication - offer the safest, most effective means of securing a trailer's tire. Rite-Hite's Manual Wheel Lok is an alternative to the proven Global Wheel Lok, which positions automatically.

The Manual Wheel Lok is easy to operate. A flashing green light outside tells the truck driver it is ok to back in. As the trailer approaches the dock, it is positioned between the wheel guide and restraint.

When the trailer is in position, the operator moves the barrier from its stored position and places it in front of the trailer's rearmost or front, rear tire.

The truck driver sees the outside light turn red --so it is clear to not pull away.

When the barrier is properly positioned in front of the tire, the inside lights change to green, indicating it is safe to enter the trailer.

When loading/unloading is complete, the dock attendant presses the "Loading Operation Complete" button on the control panel.
